Irawati Chandra graduated from the University of Indonesia with a degree in Law in 1990 and has more than 36 years of experience in legal practice. She began her career at a prominent litigation firm before moving to a leading corporate law practice. She previously served as a Partner for more than five years and currently serves as Of Counsel at NSMP.
Irawati advises domestic and international clients on a broad range of dispute resolution, intellectual property, corporate and commercial, capital markets, employment and industrial relations, and regulatory matters. Her practice combines extensive contentious experience with a strong understanding of the commercial and regulatory considerations affecting businesses operating in Indonesia.
Her dispute resolution practice encompasses civil, commercial, and administrative disputes, employment and industrial relations matters, and arbitration. She advises clients on legal strategies, potential claims and liabilities, and dispute avoidance and resolution, and represents clients before Indonesian courts, government authorities, arbitral tribunals, and other relevant forums.
Irawati has extensive capital markets experience and is a registered capital market legal consultant. She has advised on equity capital markets transactions, including rights issues and initial public offerings, as well as legal and regulatory matters arising from capital market activities.
She also has substantial experience in intellectual property, advising on the protection, registration, licensing, enforcement, and commercialisation of intellectual property rights, including trademarks, copyright, industrial designs, and patents. Her experience includes trademark cancellation and infringement proceedings, counterfeit goods, customs seizures, criminal enforcement actions, and unfair competition matters. She also advises on intellectual property issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial transactions, licensing, and franchising arrangements, including the identification, assessment, and protection of intellectual property assets in corporate transactions.
In addition, Irawati advises clients on corporate and commercial matters, employment and industrial relations, and regulatory issues, with particular attention to the legal and operational considerations relevant to their business activities in Indonesia.
Irawati holds qualifications in intellectual property rights covering trademarks, copyright and related rights, industrial designs, trade secrets, integrated circuit designs, patents, and patent drafting.
She is a member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia – PERADI), the Financial Sectors Legal Consultant Association (Himpunan Konsultan Hukum Sektor Keuangan – HKHSK, formerly the Indonesian Capital Market Legal Consultants Association – HKHPM), the Indonesian Intellectual Property Rights Consultant Association (Asosiasi Konsultan Hak Kekayaan Intelektual Indonesia – AKHKI), and the Indonesian Labor Law Consultant Association (Himpunan Konsultan Hukum Ketenagakerjaan Indonesia – ILLCA/HKHKI).
